Duquesne's lacrosse team set a school record with 25 goals, including 13 straight in the second half, to capture a 25-8 Atlantic 10 opening victory Friday afternoon at Rooney Field. The Dukes (3-5, 1-0 A10), who led 12-8 at the half, outscored the Bonnies (2-7, 0-1) 13-0 in the second half for the final tally.

The previous Duquesne record for goals in a game was 22 set on three occasions, most recently in a 22-4 win over Howard on Feb. 19, 2014.

The Red and Blue jumped out to a 3-0 lead five minutes into the contest before SBU scored three straight in the next five minutes to knot the contest at 3-3. The Dukes then went on to register nine straight goals over the next 9:24 to take a 12-3 advantage at the 5:06 mark before the Bonnies scored the final five goals of the half for a 12-8 Duquesne lead at the intermission.

Following a SBU goalkeeper change at the half, the Dukes found the back of the net five times in a span of 3:57 for a 17-8 lead. After a St. Bonaventure time out and another keeper switch, the Red and Blue tallied the final eight goals of the game.

Kaelin Shaw and Jill Vacanti led the Dukes with six goals each, followed by Tess Drotar with three and two each by Sarah Kolhoff, Sarah Dawley and Macy Marafioti. Ten different Dukes scored in the contest with the final nine goals of the game coming by different players.

Jenna Bishop posted eight saves in goal and had a game-high five ground balls. Meredith Micho led Duquesne with four draw controls and Kaitlyn DeHaven paced DU with three caused turnovers.

The Dukes return to action on Sunday, April 3 as they travel to UMass for a noon draw.
