Duquesne's lacrosse team improved to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play with a 22-9 victory over visiting St. Bonaventure Thursday afternoon on Rooney Field.

Haley Marafioti led five Dukes with hat tricks by scoring five goals, including the game-winner which occurred 26 seconds into the contest. She was followed by Caitlin Prince with four goals and Michelle Morris, Amanda Kidder and Cailin Colegrove with three each.

The Dukes scored early and often as DU jumped to a 4-0 lead less than seven minutes in as Marafioti scored twice and Prince and Cailin Colegrove also scored. After a SBU goal at the 22:53 mark, the Dukes scored four more straight goals and eventually took a 12-4 lead into the half.

Elise Caldwell, who led the Red and Blue with 15 assists headed into the contest, helped on four first half goals and added another assist in the second stanza to give her 20 for the season.

SBU tallied the first goal of the second half, but DU rallied off five more straight goals to put the contest out of reach at 17-5 with 15 minutes remaining.

Liz Walker made five saves in goal in her 43 minutes of play before yielding to Kristen Gregory who finished the contest with four saves.

Casey Briglia led the Dukes with three ground balls while Colegrove and Clare Hurley each had three caused turnovers.

 

 

The Red and Blue return to action on Friday, April 13th as the Dukes host UMass at 1:00 pm on Rooney Field.
