Red and Blue Defeat Saint Joseph's, 9-5
April 12, 2003
Philadelphia, PA - Duquesne¹s Ginger Flocco and Kelly Mulford each recorded hat tricks as the Dukes (8-4, 2-2 Atlantic 10) held Saint Joseph¹s scoreless for twenty mintues in the second half to garner a 9-5 Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse victory. Kristen Teklinsky led SJU (2-8, 0-5) with three goals and an assist.
Duquesne¹s Laura App started things off with the game¹s first goal at the 23:31 mark of the first half and Teklinsky evened the score with an unassisted goal three minutes later. DU dominated the rest of the first half, scoring four straight goals two by Mulford and one each by Becca West and Flocco to take a 5-1 lead.
Teklinsky scored the final goal of the first half (5:44) and assisted on Kerry O¹Connell¹s goal just two minutes into the second half to bring the Hawks within two goals at 5-3. That was as close as they would get.
The Dukes rattled off four unanswered goals and coasted to the 9-5 victory. Mulford started the run with a goal at 21:21, before Flocco followed with two of her own. App finished the DU scoring with her second goal at the 11:34 mark.
The Hawks tacked on two goals, one by Teklinsky and one by Megan Gresh, to close the game. Courtney Huff stopped seven shots in the net for SJU, while Sarah Pacini made nine saves for DU.
The Dukes stay in the City of Brotherly Love for a Sunday, Apr. 13th match at La Salle at 12 noon.
