Lacrosse Falls to Richmond 17-10

PITTSBURGH - Richmond opened the second half scoring eight of the first 10 goals en route to a 17-10 victory at a rain-soaked Rooney Field on Friday afternoon.
The Dukes fall to 7-9, 2-4 A-10 while the Spiders improve to 8-8, 5-1 A-10 heading into the final game of the conference schedule.
Gabi Weigand scored five points for the Spiders. Erica Marrocco had a game-high 13 saves.
The first half was very close, with the biggest lead being three goals. The Dukes got on the board first with Kat McNish setting up Frederick 26 seconds in. Richmond would score the next three goals to take a two goal lead at the 23:40 mark of the first half.
Rekart and Frederick scored back-to-back goals to even the score at 3-3before Danielle Schaevitz and Mary Flowers would put the Spiders up 5-3 with 11:33 left in the half.
McNish and Rekart would score 68 second apart to tie the score at 5-5, but UR would counter with three straight goals in the next 4:12 to go up 8-5 with 5:00 left in the half. Sarah Cates closed out the scoring at 4:05 to send the game into halftime with Richmond leading 8-6.
The Spiders came out the gates in the second half with four straight goals to double up DU at 12-6 the 10-minute mark of the period.
DU would score twice on a free position shot by Riley Schamburg and Frederick, but UR would answer with four consecutive goals to take a commanding 16-8 lead with 3:47 to play.
McNish and Rekart would add goals for the Dukes, but Weigand ended the scoring with 12 second left, giving the Spiders a 17-10 win.
The Dukes close out the regular season on Sunday against George Washington on senior recognition day. Ceremonies start at 12:15 with a 1:00 p.m. faceoff.
