Red and Blue Defeat George Mason in Waning Minutes, 9-8

The Duquesne University lacrosse team played its third straight one-goal game and came out on top for a second time with a 9-8 victory at George Mason on Sunday. Trailing 8-5 midway through the second half, the Dukes scored the final four goals of the contest to capture the win.
Mason scored first just 1:15 after the initial draw and led the entire contest until Tess Drotar tied the score at 8-8 with 10:56 remaining and Macy Marafioti tallied the game-winner with 1:57 on the second half clock.
Tess Drotar led the Dukes with three goals while Marafioti and Jill Vacanti added two each. Sarah Dawley had a game-high four draw controls, while Jenna Bishop made 14 saves in goal and had a game-high three ground balls.
The Dukes (6-7, 4-2 A-10), who are in a three-way tie for third place in the Atlantic 10 standings, return to action on Friday, April 15 as they host Davidson (7-6, 4-2 A-10) at 3:00 pm at Rooney Field.
