April 20, 2012
Sophomores Caitlin Prince and Haley Marafioti each scored four goals and freshmen Amanda Kidder and Clare Hurley each recorded hat tricks as Duquesne defeated visiting George Washington, 15-10 to secure a berth in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship to be played April 27-29 in Richmond, Va.
The teams exchanged the first four goals before the Dukes rattled off three straight to take an 5-2 lead that they would not relinquish. After GW scored to cut the DU lead to two, the Red and Blue scored four in a row for a 9-3 advantage and took a 10-5 lead into the half.
The Colonials scored the first goal of the half before DU tallied four more consecutive goals to make it 14-6 with a little over 19 minutes left. GW then scored four straight time to cut its deficit to 14-10 with 4:56 left, but DU found the back of the net with 2:09 left for the final score.
Cailin Colegrove was credited with the game-winning goal in the first half and Elise Caldwell assisted on four scores to give her a team-best 24 on the season. Kidder also helped on two goals while Marafioti and Prince each notched assists as well.
With her four goals, Prince has 56 on the season which is two shy of the school record 58 set by Ginger Flocco in 2004.
Liz Walker was steller in goal again making 14 saves with two ground balls. Kidder also added three ground balls, a draw control and four caused turnovers.
The Dukes return to action on Sunday, April 22 for their regular season finale versus Richmond at 1:00 pm. Before the contest, seniors Elise Caldwell, Cailin Colegrove, Amy Gladfelter, Jackie Henke and Liz Walker will be honored.
