Dukes Fall to #10 Ohio State In Season Finale

Duquesne women's lacrosse (9-7) fell to #10 Ohio State 10-5 Thursday night in the 2003 season finale. Sarah Pacini went the distance in goal stopping a career-best 19 shots, which stands second all-time on the Duquesne single-games list. Ginger Flocco and Allison Smith netted two goals to lead the Red & Blue while Carrie Watkins led the contest with two assists.
Shannon Wilson led the Buckeyes with three goals while Regina Oliver added two goals and an assist in the win.
The game saw nearly nine minutes of scoreless play before Wilson found the back of the cage from Oliver at 21:10. That was followed up by a Tracey Bounds' goal at 20:18 for a 2-0 Ohio State lead. The Buckeyes went up 3-0 at 18:28 before Ginger Flocco hit the back of the net at 13:27 for the Dukes. OSU would score unassisted goal in the 9th, 6th and 5th minutes to take a 6-1 lead into the break.
Wilson started the second frame with a free position score at 28:12 for a 7-1 edge before 11 minutes of scoreless play passed. Alison Smith, seeing her first game's action, scored from Carrie Watkins at 17:07 but the Buckeyes grabbed a 10-2 advantage with 6:21 remaining. Smith once again found the back of the cage in the 6th minute followed by a Buckeyes free position score by Megan Stickler at 4:02. The Dukes concluded the game's scoring with Mincher netting a goal from Laura App at 2:54 and Flocco taking the give from Watkins at 1:57.
Flocco ends the season with a team-best 54 draw controls and 42 goals to stand second and fifth respectively on the Duquesne single-season list. Pacini recorded 163 saves on the season, which is good for fourth on the Dukes' list. Krista Mann concludes her first season with the Red & Blue fifth all-time with 38 draw controls as well.
