Dukes Playoff Hopes End with 13-11 Loss at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C - The Dukes' postseason hopes came to an end Friday afternoon as a 13-11 George Washington victory eliminated the Red & Blue from 2007 playoff contention.

Down 10-8 the Dukes got back-to-back goals by Janna Faulkner and Courtney Tamasitis to tie the score at 10-10 with 15:17 left in the game. The Colonials came right back with a pair of goals to take a 12-10 lead at the 13:39 mark. Meghan Frederick got Duquesne within one goal with 2:32 left in regulation, but the Colonials sealed the game with three seconds remaining to close out the scoring and improve to 9-6, 4-1.

Tamasitis tied the game-high with four goals and Kathleen McNish had a team-high five points as DU fell to 7-9, 2-4. Caitlin Carducci made a career-high 12 saves.

GW came out of the gates with an early 3-1 advantage. Becky Greene and two goals by Tamasitis gave DU its only lead of the game 4-3 at 15:29 of the first half. The Colonials came back with three consecutive goals to take a 6-4 lead before Caitlin Kilty closed the gap to 6-5 with a free position goal. The Colonials and Dukes exchanged goals as Meghan Frederick's goal from McNish had Duquesne down 7-6 at the half.

The Dukes were out shot by a 36-16 margin and the Colonials had a 15-6 ground ball advantage. DU led 15-10 in draw controls
 

 

The Dukes conclude the 2007 season Sunday afternoon at Richmond.
