Duquesne Lacrosse Picked to Finish Second in Atlantic 10 Standings

After advancing to the Atlantic 10 Championship finals last season, the Duquesne lacrosse team has been picked to finish second in the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's coaches.

Duquesne garnered one first place vote and a total of 54 points, trailing reigning A-10 champion Massachusetts, which received seven first place votes and 63 points.

The Dukes, who are coming off a 2013 season in which they went 11-7 and 5-2 in Atlantic 10 play, return six of their top seven scorers from last season, including seniors Haley Marafioti (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy and Caitlin Prince (Sykesville, Md./Liberty). The Red and Blue also return reigning A-10 Midfielder of the Year and top scorer Amanda Kidder (Fairport, N.Y./Victor) and reigning conference Rookie of the Year Lib Lowry (Wayne, Pa./Radnor).

Reigning A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Kristen Gregory (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) will be back in the cage for the Dukes in 2014. Gregory allowed just 9.52 goals per game last season, making 137 saves and posting a .437 save percentage.

The Dukes open the 2014 slate on Sunday, Feb. 16 as they host Howard at 4:00 pm on Rooney Field.
