Wood, Frederick Named to the IWLCA West/Midwest Region Second Team

West Hyannisport, Mass. - Senior Ashley Wood (Shaker Heights, Ohio/ Shaker Heights ) and junior Meghan Frederick (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) have been named to the to the Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association West/Midwest Region Second Team announced today.

This is the first IWLCA honor for both student-athletes.

IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-Regional teams for 2009. In choosing the student-athletes for this recognition, the IWLCA has strict nominating guidelines that must be adhered to by all member institutions. The 2009 All-Regional and All-American honorees have met both the nominating and selection criteria.

Wood and Frederick are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 28. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American banquet on June 13, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.

Wood, the 2009 Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse Midfielder of the Year, finished the regular season with career-highs in goals (54) and points (56), which was ninth in the A-10 in total points. The 2009 team captain and March 16th A-10 player of the week finished her Duquesne career with 139 goals, which is third in program history.

Frederick, the 2009 Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Year, broke both the school and conference single-season record for assists with 44, finished the year with a career-high 77 points. She ranked in the top 10 nationally all season in assists, assists per game (2.59), points (77) and points per game (4.53). The April 20th conference player of the week average of 5.14 points per game in A-10 Conference play ranked first.
