Dukes 7th At A-10 Rowing Championships

Pennsauken, N.J. - Duquesne University's women's rowing team finished seventh in the nine-team Atlantic 10 Championships Saturday afternoon on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ. This matches DU's best mark that was achieved in 2001 where nine teams also competed.
The Dukes' Lightweight 8 and Novice 4 squads finished second in both Grand Final races earning four and five points respectively. Duquesne also scored in the Quad Grand Final placing fifth and in the Novice 8-B Grand Final which placed sixth.
Duquesne's athletes also got good experience by competing in all four non-scoring events: Pair, Novice 8-A Petite, Varsity 8 Petite and 2nd Varsity 8 Petite.
Massachusetts won its 10th straight Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship title, the longest streak in any sport in league history. UMass' Jim Deitz was named Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season.
Duquesne tied for eighth last season. The Dukes next action is on Saturday, May 7, 2005 in the Mid-America Collegiate Rowing Association (MACRA) Championship Regatta on Dow Lake in Athen, Ohio's Strouds Run State Park.
