Colleen McCroskey A-10 Student-Athlete Of The Year

May 5, 2004

Duquesne University's junior rower Colleen McCroskey (Solon, Ohio / Solon) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Student-Athlete of the Year, the league announced Wednesday. Three other Dukes, seniors Jessica Lisjak (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Catholic), Karen Predmore (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) and Kate Talarczyk (Madison, Wis. / Madison West), were also named to the 11-member A-10 Rowing Academic All-Conference Team.

The Ohio native led the Dukes to a bronze medal in the Lightweight 8 at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship, recording a time of 7:45.2. McCroskey's Lightweight 8 crew was fifth at the inaugural Governor's Cup at the Head of Ohio this past fall, helping lead Duquesne to the overall title. The Lightweight 8 was also third at the Head of the Occoquan. As a member of the Lightweight 4, her boat won the silver medal winner at the Head of the Speakmon where the Dukes won the overall points trophy.

McCroskey holds a 4.00 grade point average as an occupational therapy major. She has been on the Dean's List every semester at Duquesne, as well as being on the Duquesne Director of Athletics and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls. She is a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Whales Tail.

This is second year in a row that Predmore and Talarczyk have been named academic all-conference and the first such citation for Lisjak who has a 3.96 GPA in elementary education. Predmore has a 3.92 in pharmacy and Talarczyk holds a 3.69 GPA in pyschology.

McCroskey is the fifth Duquesne Duke to be named the Atlantic 10 Academic Student-Athlete of the Year this season joining Ryan Bender (men's cross-country), Jason Kutney (men's soccer), Shea McMillan (women's indoor track and field) and Jimmy Tricco (men's basketball).

The Dukes will complete their regular season schedule this weekend, Friday and Saturday, May 7-8, at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta on Philadelphia's Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park.
