Three Rowers Named A-10 Academic All-Conference

Duquesne University's Karen Predmore (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), Catherine Barger (Hummelstown, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Kate Talarczyk (Madison, Wis./Madison West) have been named to the 10-member Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Academic All-Conference team as voted upon by the league sports information directors. Predmore, a senior, was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Academic Student-Athlete of the Year.

Predmore helped lead the Dukes to a second place finish in the Lightweight 8 at the 2003 Atlantic 10 Championships. She was a member of the Petite Lightweight 8, which took fifth at the Knecht Cup and led the Lightweight 4 boat to fourth place in its qualifying heat at the Knecht Cup as well. The Lightweight 4 took second at the Marietta Regatta and she helped the Lightweight 8 take third at the Head of the Occoquan. Predmore owns a 3.92 GPA in pharmacy.

Barger, a coxswain, led the Lightweight 8 to a second-place finish at the A-10 Championships. She directed the Lightweight 4 to a second place finish and the Varsity 8 to fifth place at the Marietta Regatta. The senior also paced the Lightweight 4 to fourth in its qualifying heat and the Lightweight 8 to fifth in the Petite Final at the Knecht Cup. Barger also saw time as an oarsman taking third in the Lightweight 8 at Head of the Occoquan, fifth in the Lightweight 4 and 15th in the Club 8 at the Head of the Ohio. A health management system major, Barger boasts a 3.79 GPA.

Talarczyk helped lead the Dukes to fifth place in the Quad Grand final at the A-10 championships as well as a second place showing in the Lightweight 8 and to third place in the Varsity 8 Petite. She led the Varsity 4 to a fourth place finish in its qualifying heat at the Knecht Cup and the Varsity 8 to sixth in its heat as well. Talarczyk was a member of the Varsity 4 that captured third at the Marietta Regatta and the Varsity 8, which took fourth. She led the Dukes to third in the Invitation Sprints at the Head of the Ohio and guided the Club 4 to fifth place as well. She led the Varsity 8 to fifth and the Open Quad to sixth at the A-10 Fall Regatta. Additionally, Talarczyk led the Club 8 to fourth place and the Championship 8 to sixth at the Head of the Occoquan. The junior psychology major has a 3.75 GPA.

Predmore is the fifth Duquesne Duke to be named the Atlantic 10 Academic Student-Athlete of the Year this season and joins Beth Friday (basketball), Sarah Morrow (volleyball), Michael Lopez (men's tennis) and Terry McNelis (men's soccer).
