Colleen McCroskey Named Academic All-America

June 16, 2005

Duquesne University rower Colleen McCroskey (Solon, Ohio/Solon) has been named a 2005 ESPN The Magazine National Second Team Women's At-Large Academic All-America honoree as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is McCroskey's first National ESPN the Magazine honor. She was one of 20 Division I student-athletes from Pennsylvania, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey and West Virginia to be selected the District 2 first team, which put her name on the National ballot.

In addition to her National and District 2 Academic All-America selections, she was named the 2005 and 2004 Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Academic Student-Athlete of the Year and to 2005 and 2004 Atlantic 10 All-Academic teams.

The senior rower helped lead the Dukes' Lightweight 8 boat to a second-place finish at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championship, where Duquesne finished seventh overall. In addition, she was a member of the Lightweight 4 which took first at the Fall Head of the Speakmon. Her Lightweight 8 boat placed second at the Occoquan Chase and placed fourth at the 2004 Head of the Ohio. She has a 4.00 grade point average in occupational therapy and has been on the Dean's List each semester, as well as the Duquesne Director of Athletics and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls. She is a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul Society, as well as being a Whales Tail volunteer.

To be eligible for the Academic All-America award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore at their institution, be a starter or important reserve and have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). The district teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Duquesne has had five student-athletes named to the National team and 12 selected for District 2 honors this year.
