Michelle Karkos Participating in USRowing Freshman Camp
June 21, 2011
On Sunday, June 19th upcoming sophomore coxswain Michelle Karkos traveled to Ithaca, NY to take part in the USRowing Freshman camp being held at Cornell University. Michelle is one of three coxswains and about 20 rowers that were chosen from colleges and universities across the country. All of the athletes are upcoming sophomores who have national team aspirations and were identified as having national team potential.
Throughout the week at camp the team will practice three times a day both on and off the water. Michelle will be alternating coxing duties with the other two coxswains at the camp and is having the opportunity to use some technology that is new to her to aid in her coxing. Other teams represented at the camp along with Duquesne University are Yale University, the University of Wisconsin, Syracuse University, and the University of California (just to name a few).
This is a great opportunity for Michelle to further develop her coxing skills among some of the top freshman rowers in the country from this past season. She is being coached by the coaching staff at Cornell as well as the head coach from the University of Tulsa.
We look forward to getting an update from Michelle later this week to hear more about her experiences while at camp.
