Rowing Announces Final Additions to Roster

Coach Joe Setting would like to announce the final athletes to join the Dukes for the fall of 2014.
"I am excited and greatly looking forward to welcoming in a few months the largest incoming freshman class in our team's history," comments Coach Setting. "This is an outstanding class of talented student-athletes that are poised to make immediate contributions to our team." With the addition of these five athletes Duquesne will have 11 freshmen joining the roster in the fall.
Caroline Dirr (5'2"/Buffalo, NY/Mount Saint Mary Academy) joins the Dukes with plenty of coxing experience under her belt. She began coxing for Holy Angels Academy in Buffalo which closed its doors in 2013. Dirr moved on to Mount Saint Mary Academy to cox along with Coach Kevin Nugent. She has also coxed at West Side Rowing Club. As one of four children, to Christopher and Elizabeth Dirr, Caroline plans to major in Psychology at Duquesne.
Antonia Maffia (5'10"/Egg Harbor Township, NJ/ Egg Harbor Township High School) has been rowing since 2011 with EHTHS under Coach Dan Welsh. As a junior she posted first place finishes at the Garden State High School Championship Regatta as well as the Atlantic County High School Championships. Other noteable finishes are a 2nd place finish at the 2014 Stotesbury Cup Regatta as well as 4th place finishes at the Atlantic County High School Championship and Atlantic County High School Championships. She competed at the 2014 SRAA National Regatta finishing 8th in the nation. Antonia has also played soccer since 200, earned varsity letters in rowing and soccer, and coaches both sports. Off the water Antonia is a member of the Honor Roll, is a varsity scholar, as well as a member of the Senior Ambassador Program. The daughter of Valerie and Jim Maffia, Antonia plans to major in elementary education while at Duquesne.
Marianna Manfredi (5'4"/Midlothian, VA/James River High School) is the daughter of Joseph and Susanna Manfredi. Under coach Hank Holswade at James River Marianna has been a member of the varsity four since her freshman year. She has posted many first place finishes in the Virginia racing circuit including the 2011 and 2012 Regional Championships. In 2012 her four finished 2nd at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, in 2013 she finished 3rd at States, and in 2014 she finished 2nd at the Virginia Scholastic Championships. Marianna earned bids to race at Nationals in 2013, 2013, and 2014. A member of the Latin Club, theatre, and church choir Marianna also used to play basketball.
Emily Mittelstaedt (5'7"/West Henrietta, NY/Our Lady of Mercy High School) has rowed under Coach Patrick Fricke through her high school career. In 2012 Emily was a member of the second varsity eight that finished second at the Pull the Plug Regatta. She also raced at the 2014 CRASH B Indoor Regatta with over 200 other junior women. Emily was a 4 year member of the junior Olympic club volleyball team, is a three year member of the DECA business club and a two year officer, as well as a four year Girl Scout. In her free time Emily volunteers at a horse barn providing equine therapy to disabled children.
Lindsay Snodgrass (5'8"/Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon High School) come to the Bluff from Coach Jonathan Markowicz and a member of Pittsford's varsity eight. This past spring Lindsay's boat finished 3rd at the New York State Scholastic Rowing Association Championships and earned a bid to Youth Nationals in Sacramento, CA. Lindsay has also raced in the Canadian Henley Regatta and the Head of the Charles Regatta and is a 2011 NYSSRA Scholar Athlete. An art enthusiast, Lindsay was a 2013 NYS Region 2 Art Teachers Association Finalist. She is also a member of the 2014 National Technical Honor Society and the Pittsford School Honor Roll. Lindsay is the daughter of Cynthia and Gary Snodgrass.
