Dukes Crew Wins Initial Governor's Cup

Oct. 4, 2003

The Duquesne University women's club eight captured the inaugural Pennsylvania Governor's Cup at the 17th-Annual Head of the Ohio Saturday morning. The Governor's Cup will be awarded annually to the top college or university Club Eight crew from Pennsylvania on a rotating basis at the Head of the Ohio and Head of the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia.

The Dukes crew was the top Pennsylvania Club Eight with a time of 15:50 on the 2.8 mile course on the Allegheny River in cold and rainy conditions. They finished seventh overall among 29 boats. The crew consisted of coxswain Katie Flecker, Kate Talarczyk, Kelly Payne, Jennifer Peterman, Megan Canny, Rene Monteverde, Katie Stutz, Carrie Hamorsky and Bea Bruno. Their boat, the "Brian Colleary" was named in honor of Duquesne Athletics Director by the program for his commitment and support of women's rowing.

Duquesne returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, as the Dukes compete in the Head of the Speakmon in Columbus, Ohio.

Complete races results were not yet available.
