PITTSBURGH -- Vildan Kardesler scored in the 101st minute to lift Pitt over Duquesne 1-0 in the Dukes' home opener on Rooney Field Sunday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Kyra Murphy stopped Taylor Price's shot from point-blank-range in the 29th minute 
  • Duquesne nearly got on the board when Ciara Guglielmo's shot in the 37th minute hit the post 
  • Price's header with 17 minutes remaining in the first half bounced off the crossbar
  • A Katie O'Connor attempt with 13 minutes to go in regulation narrowly missed the net
  • Kardleser's shot from 20-yards out would be the game winner  
STAT OF THE GAME: 
  • Murphy posted six saves in the first half
NEXT UP:
The Dukes remain home to host Oakland on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Morgantown, W.Va. to face WVU on Sunday at 5 p.m.
