James Walker won his Division I coaching debut as his Dukes took a 2-1 victory over Howard in the first game of the Akron Invitational Friday evening.

Maureen Moran scored from Erica Carey in the 17th minute to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead followed by a give from Katie Schwager to Lauren Bracco in the 32nd minute for a 2-0 edge the Dukes would take into the intermission.

Howard's Raneika Bean, who racked up 21 goals last year as a sophomore, hit the lone score unassisted in the 80th minute. A tough Duquesne defense limited Bean to just four shots on the day.

Virginia Bondi recorded the win clocking in 63 minutes and allowing no goals.

The Dukes will face host Akron for the event championship on Sunday at 3:00 pm. Akron topped IPFW 2-0 in Friday's second match.
