Women's Soccer Ties West Virginia 1-1
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Duquesne women's soccer team fought off 41 West Virginia shots to extend its undefeated streak to three matches after a 1-1 double overtime draw against the Mountaineers on Thursday night.
WVU keeper Sara Keane stopped Stephanie Colon as time expired on a breakaway. Keane challenged low and pushed Colon's shot out of bounds as the horn sounded.
Ashley Szalwinski tied a career-high with 12 saves for Duquesne. In addition to outshooting the Dukes 41-12, WVU had 13 corner kicks to DU's one.
It was the first time since 1996 the Dukes tied West Virginia, who defeated No. 1 Stanford on Aug. 26th. The Mountaineers, who were ranked No. 20 in the NSCAA preseason poll, are picked to finish second in the Big 12.
The Dukes remain on the road to play Ohio State Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
