Goalkeepers Kyra Murphy and Lexi Cooke combined for Duquesne's third shutout of the season.

The first scoring opportunity of the game was by Katie O'Connor in the 5th minute, but her shot was blocked by Akron keeper Annabelle Hegeman.

The Dukes would find the back of the net in the 10th minute, when Malea Fabean collected a loose ball, beating Hegeman.

Duquesne's defense held Akron to only one scoring attempt, which occurred in the 21st minute when Erica Schrader's shot was denied by a diving Murphy.

The Dukes would close out the half with a 1-0 advantage.

Duquesne had a chance to extend their lead in the 62nd minute, but O'Connor was unable to capitalize when her shot hit the post.

O'Connor would get redemption nine minutes later, when she finished a cross from Italia Biondi to put the Dukes up 2-0.

For the game Duquesne outshot Akron 15-5 and had seven corner kicks to Akron's two.

"I thought that we played the way that we are capable of playing in the second half, and we could have scored two or three goals in the second half. We're going to enjoy this win tonight and tomorrow we get ready for a very good Princeton team on Sunday."

The Dukes host Princeton on Rooney Field at 12 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
