Dukes Beat Robert Morris, 3-2

Moon Township, Pennsylvania - Duquesne's women's soccer team continued their winning ways Wednesday afternoon by defeating host Robert Morris University 3-2 at the Colonials' North Athletic Complex.
Duquesne (2-4-0) dominated play in the first half, scoring their first goal 36 minutes into the contest. Duquesne junior midfielder Lauren Bracco (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills West) found fellow junior forward Maureen Moran (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) on top of the box. Moran placed a shot past RMU's Shana Berardi to make it 1-0.
Less than four minutes later, a third junior, Becky Barritt (Denver, Colo. / Upper St. Clair / Pittsburgh) found the back of the net for the Dukes after she recieved a perfect ball from freshman Martine Gilbert (Wilmington, N.C. / J.T. Hoggard). Bracco closed out the scoring in the first on a header off a free kick by senior Erin Marshall (Mt. Lebanon, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon).
Robert Morris (1-6-0) put on a run in the second half. In the 73rd minute senior forward Katie Dugan scored off an assist by senior forward Amy Volker to cut the lead to 3-1. Five minutes later senior forward Amy Miller placed a perfect ball in the upper left hand corner past Dukes keeper Kristin Scharphorn (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna) to make it 3-2. While the Colonials kept pressuring, DU was able to hold off their efforts and preserve the 3-2 victory.
Duquesne next hosts Canisius College (0-5-0) on Friday, September 20th at 7:30 p.m. on Rooney Field.
