Duquesne (5-3-2, 1-1) got goals from Linnea Faccenda (11') and Casey Aunkst (59') and 10 saves from goalkeeper Kyra Murphy in handing Saint Louis (9-1-1, 1-1) its first loss of the season in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Rooney Field. SLU entered the match of one of only six undefeated NCAA Division I women's soccer teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Duquesne got on the board in the 11th minute when Faccenda took a pass from Abby Losco inside the box and put it by Mary Niehaus for her team-high fourth goal of the season.
DU's Jorden Thronton put one just over the crossbar off a corner in the 17th minute.
The teams took a water break in the 23rd minute as the temperature reached 87 degrees at 1:30 p.m.
SLU outshot the Dukes 9-4 (4-3 on goal) in the opening 45.
Saint Louis' Haley Cox rattled one off the crossbar from close range in the 54th minute.
The Billikens were called for a hold in the box and Casey Aunkst put the ensuing penalty kick in the left corner to give the Dukes a 2-0 lead in the 59th minute. The goal was the first of the season for Aunkst.
The teams took a second water break with 23:17 to go.
SLU got on the board when Alli Klug took a free kick from Courtney Reimer and headed it past Murphy in the 73rd minute.
Murphy finished with 10 saves for the Dukes who were outshot 19-9.
STATS OF THE GAME
Duquesne joined Arkansas State (3-2 loss on Aug. 27) as the only team to score more than one goal against SLU this season. Saint Louis had given up just four goals in its first 10 games.
Duquesne has now won three of the past four meetings with the Billikens.
The Dukes host VCU on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. on Rooney Field. Admission to all DU home games is free.
