Women's Soccer Falls in A-10 Opener

CHARLOTTE - The Duquesne women's soccer team fell to Charlotte 5-2 on Friday in the Atlantic 10 Conference season-opener. The Dukes are now 3-5-0, 0-1-0 on the season.
The 49ers got on the board first on in the 28th minute on Hailey Beam's goal. Charlotte added another goal 11 minutes later when Jonna Handra set up Carrie Dial to put the home team up 2-0, a lead they would take into halftime.
Beam recorded her third point of the match when she assisted on a Whitney Weinraub goal in the 62nd minute making the score 3-1.
The 49ers would score two more times in the next six minutes with Beam striking again in the 70th minute and Jenna McKeon in the 76th minute to open up a 5-2 49ers advantage.
Vinicky scored her first of the season in the 88th minute to close out the scoring with Charlotte taking the victory 5-3.
"Scoring three goals on the road is quite an accomplishment," said head coach Tim Zundel. "We look forward to bouncing back on Sunday and the challenges that await us in the Atlantic 10 the rest of the season."
The Dukes return home on Sunday afternoon to host Massachusetts as part of a double-header with the men's team. Match time is 2:30 p.m.
