QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne women's began its first-ever California road trip by falling to UC Riverside 1-0 on Friday night.

UCR got on the board in the 5th minute when Celina Valencia took the ball down the left side, drove towards the middle of the field and fired a shot past Duquesne keeper Devon Tabata from 22 yards out. Just over a minute later, the Dukes had a chance to tie the score when a penalty kick was awarded. Duquesne chose Linnea Faccenda to take the kick, but Highlanders' keeper Elizabeth Silas stopped Faccenda's attempt.

In the 2nd half, the Dukes had an early scoring chance when Emma Coccia's shot bounced off the crossbar in the 54th minute. The rebound was gathered by Maddie Layman, but her attempt went wide left. Riverside increased its lead in the 68th minute after Alexa Bustamante scored from 15 yards out. Duquesne had two chances to score in the 81st and 82nd minutes, but shots by Delaney Reiff and Kahli Hale were saved by Silas.

UP NEXT: The Dukes remain on the West coast to take on UC Santa Barbara on Sunday. Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m.
