Dukes Fall to Pitt in Women's Soccer

Duquesne women's soccer (5-4-1) suffered a 3-0 loss by visiting Pitt (4-4-1) Sunday night on Rooney Field. The Dukes trailed 1-0 at the half after the Panther's Emily Tipton scored off a rebounded block in the 16th minute. Freshman keeper Virginia Bondi recorded seven saves on 15 shots and recorded the loss.
It was a physical battle between both squads throughout the night as 23 total fouls were called and six yellow cards were given out. Pitt received four cautions in the second half including one of head coach Sue-Moy Chin in the 88th minute. The Dukes were called twice in the second half.
Pitt secured the win in the 54th minute and hit the hat-trick in the 89th minute off of a direct kick as keeper Rachel Gecik was given a yellow card.
Duquesne was out-shot 22-9 for the game, but played a solid, more consistent match in the second frame taking six shots to the Panther's seven.
The Red & Blue return to play this Friday, Oct. 3, as they host Fordham at 7:00 pm on Rooney Field.
