Sept. 28, 2007
PITTSBURGH - Charlotte's Lindsey Ozimek had a pair of goals and two assists as the 49ers scored five times in the second half en route to a 5-0 shutout of Duquesne Friday night's Atlantic 10 opener.
The first and second halves were night and day for DU (3-4-0, 0-1-0). Going into halftime, the Dukes out shot Charlotte 10-6 and had three corner kicks to the 49ers one. The teams took a scoreless game into halftime, but Ozimek got Charlotte on the board in the 53rd minute. Four minutes later, she set up Whitney Weinraub to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Ozimek scored her second of the game at 69:44 to give Charlotte a 3-0 lead. Goals by Brittany Dorsch (assists from Rachel Baer and Hailey Beam) and Weinraub (from Ozimek) ended the scoring and gave the 49ers a 5-0 victory.
The Dukes were not without the chances. Audra Mathews' shot in the 23 minute narrowly missed and her penalty kick in the 64th minute was stopped by Charlotte keeper Lauren Brown. Faye Rasmussen's header off a corner kick from Mathews bounced off the post in the 75th minute.
Gabby Morin tied her career-best with six saves including two spectacular stops on point blank shots by Charlotte's Beam. Mathews tied a season-high with five shots.
Duquesne will continue their Atlantic 10 schedule Sunday afternoon as they travel to undefeated Massachusetts. The game has a noon kickoff.
