Box Score

Duquesne suffered a 2-1 Atlantic 10 loss to visiting Temple this afternoon on Rooney Field. Senior Kristin Scharphorn (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna) recorded a season-high 12 saves in the loss as she faced 18 shots. Junior Julie Broden (Ellicott City, Md. / Mt. Hebron) posted her first score of the season to lead the Dukes' offensive attack.

Broden's goal in the 25th minute put the Dukes up 1-0 before the Owls answered back 30 seconds later with an unassisted goal by Samantha Vietry for the 1-1 tie and half-time score. Tough and stingy defense held Temple to just three shots in the first frame to the Dukes six attempts.

Temple came out hard after the break out-shooting the Dukes 14-4 for the second half. Senior Erin Marshall's (Mt. Lebanon, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) indirect kick in the 57th minute hit the crossbar just missing the go-ahead opportunity.

Scharphorn had a solid performance protecting the net in the second half, making three great saves in the first 15 minutes of play before Christine McInaw inched a high shot just out of her reach in the 64th minute for the game-winning goal.

The loss dropped Duquesne to 5-7-1, 1-3-1 A10 while Temple improved to 8-6-0, 3-2-0 A10. The Dukes close out their home season next weekend hosting UMass (5-8-0. 2-2-0 A10) and Rhode Island (9-3-1, 5-0-0).
