Washington, D.C. - Duquesne University's women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with George Washington University Friday afternoon at Mount Vernon. The Dukes are now 7-7-1 on the season, 2-3-1 in Atlantic 10 play. GW is 4-5-5, 2-1-3 in league play.

DU freshman Kelly Reed (South Park, Pa. / South Park) broke a scoreless tie when she found the back of the net in the fifth minute of the second half. Reed initially had her shot attempt blocked by Colonial goalkeeper Kelly Paolucci, but teammate Audra Mathews (Cincinnati, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) was able to recover the loose ball and feed it back to Reed who converted it for a score.

The Colonials tied the game on Sarah Sample's goal off Ina Kain's corner kick at 84.:20 of the game. Both teams were held scoreless the rest of regulation and through two overtimes even though Duquesne fired off three shots in each of the overtime periods. The Colonials were unable to get off a shot in extra time.

Duquesne sophomore Virginia Bondi (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) recorded three saves. Paolucci had nine saves as the Dukes outshot the Colonials, 19-9.

Reed now has six goals in her rookie season while Mathews,who leads the Red and Blue in scoring, tallied her 11th assist.

The Dukes conclude the road portion of the 2004 schedule on Sunday, Oct. 17th when they take on Richmond (5-5-1, 4-1-0) at 1:00 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex. The Spiders are hosting Saint Bonaventure Friday evening.
