Women's Soccer Falls 4-2 to Saint Joseph's

Oct. 22, 2006

Box Score

The Duquesne women's soccer team suffered a 4-2 Atlantic 10 loss to visiting Saint Joseph's Sunday afternoon on Rooney Field. Shelley Esposito and Christine Murawski each scored a goal for the Dukes.

The visiting Hawks wasted no time finding the back of the net as Nancy Cook gave SJU a 1-0 edge 4:05 into play. Megan Schutt upped the Hawks' lead to a 2-0 margin at 29:45, which they would carry into the break.

Esposito broke the Duquesne scoring drought at 60:13 with a goal off a rebound for a 2-1 reach before Murawski evened the mark at 2-2 just over nine minutes later with assists for Audra Mathews and Liz Bok. The Hawks would not surrender as Ali Wean gave SJU the go-ahead goal at 71:11 off a steal and she would launch a corner kick into the goal at 78:29 for the 4-2 final.

The loss puts the Dukes at 4-8-2 overall, 3-3-1 in A-10 play while Saint Joseph's improves to 6-10-0 overall, 3-4-0 in league play.

Duquesne out-shot the Hawks 20-16 and held a 14-4 advantage on corner kicks. Keeper Ginny Bondi had six saves in the loss.

The Dukes return to action this Friday as they host Rhode Island at 7:30 pm on Rooney Field.
