Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to UMass in Season Finale

Five Duquesne seniors saw an disappointing end to their careers suffering a 1-0 Atlantic 10 loss to visiting Massachusetts (11-6-1, 5-4-0) Sunday afternoon on Rooney Field on Senior Day. Senior goalkeeper Ginny Bondi had a solid showing in goal stopping a season-high 14 shots. She faced 27 on the day.
Playing in their final home contest wearing the Red & Blue were Liz Bok, Bondi, Christina Goodfellow, Amber Paul and Lindsay O'Connell.
The contest saw a scoreless first half with the Minutewomen holding a 17-8 shots advantage going into the intermission. The scoreboard would see no action until the 74th minute when UMass' Vanessa Patry's cross was tipped right by Christina Adams putting the ball past the reach of Bondi and into the back of the net for the first and only score of the contest.
Senior Amber Paul took four of the Dukes' 13 shots on the day. The Red & Blue were out-shot 27-13 for the contest. The Dukes' were without two regulars due to injuries suffered Friday night - juniors Kelly Reed and Audra Mathews. The tandem led DU with three goals each this past season while Mathews posted a team-best four assists.
Bondi ends the season with 102 saves ranking sixth on the Duquesne single-season list.
Duquesne concludes the year 4-10-2 overall, 3-5-1 in Atlantic 10 action.
