Women's Soccer Signs Nicole Petrillo to National Letter of Intent
March 3, 2008
PITTSBURGH - Duquesne head women's soccer coach Tim Zundel announced today the signing of Nicole Petrillo. Nicole is the eighth player of his 2008 class.
Petrillo, a 5-5 forward, was a teammate of Jess Szekely and Laura Tlumack on the Penns Forest club team that won four state championships. She was also a member of the Greensburg Central Catholic team that made the PIAA State Finals in 2005 and 2006.
"Nicky comes into our program as a much decorated player, who will add a tremendous amount of experience and ability to our team," said Zundel. "She is a forward who players will hate to defend against; she has the ability to score goals and that is our next task is to ensure she continues that success up front."
A two-time all-WPIAL and all-state selection, Petrillo finished the season as the leading goal scorer in the WPIAL with 50. She finished her career as the Lady Centurions all-time leading scorer with 167 goals and holds multiple records for scoring and assists. She earned the 2006 Pittsburgh Post Gazette East Player of the Year.
"I feel this is a good class and with the addition of Nicky we have a good balance of players coming into our program in 2008. The nice thing about the class is we have eight out standing players and young ladies coming into our program. Four are standouts from the Pittsburgh area. It's exciting times for everyone," said Zundel.
Petrillo will join Becky Bentley (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge), Mackenzie Creehan (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), Gia Marino (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff), Brooke Nettuno (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central), Jess Szeckley (North Huntingdon, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic), Laura Tlumack (Norvelt, Pa./Mt. Pleasant) and Rachel Weigand (Brecksville, Ohio/Holy Name) in the 2008 recruiting class.
