Women's Soccer Releases 2013 Schedule

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne head women's soccer coach Al Alvinehas released the Dukes' 2013 schedule. In addition to an eight-match Atlantic 10 Conference slate the non-conference schedule will be highlighted by the Navy Invitational and matches against cross-town rivals Pittsburgh and Robert Morris.
After a pair of scrimmage matches at Youngstown State on Aug. 12th and home vs. Akron on Aug. 17th, the 20th season of Duquesne women's soccer begins with a three-match homestand starting Aug. 23rd against Saint Francis. The Red Flash advanced to the 2012 Northeast Conference championship match and finished last season 14-5-2. On Aug. 25th, the University of Pittsburgh visits Rooney Field. Last season, the Dukes and Panthers resumed the rivalry which was on hiatus since 2004. The homestand closes out on Sept. 1st when Duquesne hosts Marist.
The first road trip of the season is to Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Invitational. The first match is against the host Midshipmen on Sept. 6th followed by Towson on Sept. 8th. Duquesne last played both teams in 2010.
The Dukes remain on the road the following weekend when they visit Buffalo on Sept. 13 then at Niagara on Sept. 15th. Duquesne was a 2-0 winner over Buffalo in at the 2010 Niagara Fall Classic. Coach Alvine's first Duquesne win came against Niagara last year.
Duquesne kicks off another three-match homestand on Sept. 24th when they host Robert Morris. The Dukes hold an 11-3-2 all-time advantage against the Colonials and are 4-0-2- in the last six matches. The Class of 2013 will be honored on Senior Night on Sept. 27th when the Dukes host NJIT. This is the first-ever match against the Highlanders who play in the Great West Conference.
The Atlantic 10 schedule begins Oct. 5th when St. Bonaventure comes to town. The Bonnies finished fifth in the conference last season. The Dukes hit the road Oct. 5th to face Saint Louis. Duquesne has won the last two matches against the Billikens.
The Dukes return home for to face VCU on Oct. 18th. The marks the first-ever Atlantic 10 Conference match between the two teams. Last season, the Rams advanced to the A-10 championship match in their inaugural season. Duquesne and VCU last squared off in 1999. George Washington comes to Rooney Field on Oct. 20th. The Dukes and Colonials have gone back-and-forth in the last seven matches of the series, splitting the last six matches with one draw.
Duquesne plays at Richmond on Oct. 25th. The Dukes have had recent success over the Spiders, winning five of the last seven matches, including a 1-0 shutout last year.
The home slate closes out with La Salle. The Explorers are the defending A-10 champions and are coming off a 17-5-1 season. La Salle has not lost a regular season A-10 match since Oct. 29, 2010.
The Dukes take to the road for the final two regular season matches beginning Nov. 1st at Fordham and at Rhode Island Nov. 3rd.
The 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship will be played at VCU's Sports Backer Stadium in Richmond, Va. November 7-10. The top eight teams qualify for the championship with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer College Cup.
