June 30, 2014
Former Duquesne women's soccer midfielder Stephanie Colon is currently representing Puerto Rico in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying rounds.
Colon played all 90 minutes in Puerto Rico's 1-0 victory over Barbados and in their 1-1 draw against Martinique. Both games were played in Puerto Rico. With their four points, Puerto Rico will advance to the second round to face Jamaica, Martinique and group hosts Trinidad & Tobago in August.
"Playing in Puerto Rico we had a crowd of over 500 people and were asked for autographs and pictures which was a different experience," said Colon. "I'm very proud to be representing Puerto Rico and I'm excited as we continue on the path to make history."
"Steph someone that eats, sleeps and breathes soccer so it's so exciting to see her get this opportunity to compete at the international level," said Duquesne head coach Al Alvine." We wish her all the best and know that she will continue to represent our women's soccer program and university pride and passion."
Colon, who was team captain, finished her Duquesne career with 65 matches played, making 64 starts. She was a member of Director of Athletics' Honor Roll, Dean's List and Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
