DU, coming off their second consecutive berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship last season, will play seven non-conference matches - including a pair of tournaments - in addition to the traditional 11-game Atlantic 10 slate. The season begins Aug. 21st when Duquesne hosts Saint Francis, Pa. at Rooney Field. "We are very excited for the challenge that awaits us for the 2009 season," said Zundel. "This is one of the toughest schedules in the history of the program." The non-conference season will be highlighted by the Sept. 3rd match at West Virginia. This will mark the first time the Dukes and Mountaineers have met since 2000. WVU made it to the second round of the 2008 NCAA Championship and looks to be ranked in the top 10 this season. Rooney Field will be the site for the 2009 Duquesne Classic on Aug. 28th and Aug. 30th. Robert Morris and Manhattan will kick things off on the first day, followed by Duquesne and Marshall. On the second day of play, Marshall will play Manhattan while DU will take on cross-town rival Robert Morris. After a home match against Bucknell on Sept. 6th, Duquesne will travel to Blacksburg, Va. for the Virginia Tech Classic on Sept. 11th and 13th. The Dukes will play the College of Charleston on the first day followed by UNC Greensboro on the second day. UNCG made it to the finals of the Southern Conference Tournament last season and finished with an RPI of 46. The Atlantic 10 season begins on the road with defending conference champion and NCAA Championship participant Charlotte Sept. 25. Massachusetts comes to Rooney Field on Sept. 27th before the Dukes hit the road for three straight matches against St. Bonaventure (Oct. 3rd), Saint Joseph's (Oct. 9th) and Temple (Oct. 11th).
DU returns to Pittsburgh for a weekend home stand against Xavier (Oct. 16th) and Dayton (Oct. 18th). The final regular season road trip is Oct. 23rd at Richmond and Oct. 25th at George Washington. The 2009 schedules closes out at Rooney Field against Fordham (Oct. 30th) and La Salle (Nov. 1st). Charlotte, N.C. will be the site for the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship. The top six teams qualify, with the two top teams receiving a first round bye. The opening round will be held at Transamerica Field Nov. 5th followed by the semifinal round Nov. 6th and the championship on Nov. 8th. SCHEDULE NOTES
