Katie O'Connor Named A-10 Rookie of the Week
Nov. 2, 2015
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Duquesne freshman forward Katie O'Connor the league's Rookie of the Week.
O'Connor finished the week with seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) in the Dukes' road split last week. She figured in on both of Duquesne's goals at Dayton, scoring one and setting up one and tallied both of the Dukes' goals in the victory at La Salle. Sunday's win over the Explorers was the first for Duquesne in Philadelphia since the 2004 season.
With O'Connor winning the award, Duquesne bookends the Rookie of the Week honors, with Kristen Kotsopoulos taking home ROW in Week 1. O'Connor also won the award on Sept. 8th.
Kyra Murphy was last week's ROW winner, marking the fourth time in program history Duquesne has won back-to-back ROW. The last was in 2013 when Maddie Layman won on 09/30/13 follow by Maggie Mayo on 10/07/13.
Winning the ROW award four times is a program record and three different student-athletes being selected by the A-10 ties the program record (Sarah Nicholson, Colleen Mulhair, Erin McKane in 1995).
The Dukes will be a #7 seed and will play #2 seed Dayton (10-9-0, 8-2-0 A-10) on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. The match will be held at Alumni Soccer Stadium on the campus of Davidson.
