PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne swimming and diving team participated in the 2018 Western PA Invite hosted by the University of Pittsburgh on Friday and Saturday at Trees Pool. The Dukes recorded 10 top-three finishes on Saturday, including a pair of first-place marks.
Junior Abigail Stauffer (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) paced the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.23 for DU.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of seniors Lexi Santer (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) and Michelle Heim (Greesboro, N.C./Ragsdale) as well as juniors Morgan Smith (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) and Kristen McKnight (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) placed first in the event with a mark of 1:36.81.
Stauffer added a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.33) while also being part of Duquesne's 200-yard medley relay team with senior Abby Watson (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette), McKnight and Heim which placed second in the event (1:46.43).
The 200-free relay squad consisting of sophomores Heather Svitavsky (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby) and Carson Gross (York, Pa./York Suburban) along with freshmen Cateri Christinis (Charleroi, Pa./Oakland Catholic) and Emma Brinton (Landenburg, Pa./Avon Grove) finished third in the relay for the Dukes, as well.
Heim and junior Emily Thirion (Warren, Ohio/Warren) posted second (23.98) and third-place (24.51) marks in the 50-yard freestyle for DU.
Senior Kayla Owens (Youngstown, Pa./Greater Latrobe) (100-yard butterfly / 58.70), sophomore Lauren Devorace (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) (200-yard freestyle / 1:54.82) and Christinis (200-yard butterfly / 2:10.21) added third-place finishes for the Dukes.
- The Duquesne divers will wrap up the regular season next weekend with the YSU Diving Invite at Beeghly Natatorium in Youngstown, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 3 as the Dukes' final tune-up before the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship.
- The Dukes swimmers return to action at the A-10 Championship at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio from Wednesday, Feb. 14 to Saturday, Feb. 17. DU has posted two consecutive second-place showings at the championship meet.
