Duquesne's women's swimming team settled into sixth place of 10 teams after the first of four days at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Four of the five schools who finished ahead of the Dukes scored points in diving, which Duquesne does not compete in.

The evening session opened with the Dukes placing third in the 200-yard medley relay with a school record time of 1:43.94. Competing in the event for the Red and Blue were seniors Katrina Streiner and Christina Sherrard, sophomore Tara VanNatta and freshman Monique Lefort.

Streiner and Sherrard also competed in the 800 freestyle relay with junior Anne Hayles and freshman Amanda McClelland. The quartet set a new school standard in the event with a time of 7:32.85.

Day two will begin at 10:30 am with qualifying trials in three events and 6:30 pm finals in four events.
