Duquesne's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Meghan Smith, Samantha Ray, Nicole Bruneel and Line Lovberg highlighted the day one activities at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship by smashing the school record time by over eight seconds in the event with a third place time of 7:24.84.

Smith's opening 200-yard time in the relay of 1:49.64 also broke a school record. The only other event of the evening was the 200-yard medley relay where the Red and Blue placed seventh in 1:44.52.

For the evening, Duquesne placed fifth with a team score of 56 points.

"I'm very proud of the ladies tonight", said head coach David Sheets. "We had some great performances this evening. We will enjoy what we did tonight for a short time and then refocus," he added. "It's a long meet and we have to continue to take it one swim at a time"

Day two action will begin Thursday morning with preliminary races in the 500-freestyle, 200 IM and 50 free.
