Red and Blue Place Fourth at 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship

Duquesne's women's swimming team placed 15 individuals in the finals session on Saturday en route to a fourth place finish at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship. Freshman Miriam McGeath broke her second school record of the meet by finishing third in the 200 butterfly. The day opened with five Dukes scoring points in the 1,650-yard freestyle, led by Angela Majkut who placed fourth in 17:14.21. She was followed by Karissa Gorman in seventh, Amanda McClelland in ninth, Hannah Kondrotas in 11th and Anne Hayles in 15th. In the 200 backstroke, Tara VanNatta led the way for DU in 10th place in 2:05.45, followed by Morgan Claycomb in 12th place and Briana Mangis in 14th place. Meghann McGoldrick was the lone DU swimmer in the finals of the 100 freestyle in 14th place in 52.72 while Caitlin Zajko turned in a fifth place showing in the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.54, followed by McGeath in seventh place and Gorman in 14th. McGeath's school record in the 200 fly came in the next event with a time of 2:03.46. Following her were Kirstie Shumaker in fifth place and Kondrotas in eighth. The women's championship wrapped up with a seventh place showing in the 400 free relay. In all, the Dukes set four new school records, three by individuals and one by relay.
