Duquesne's women's swimming team garnered a third place finish at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship, equaling the best finish in school history set at last year's A-10 event.

Senior Christina Sherrard made a statement as the top sprinter in the Atlantic 10 this year by winning the gold medal in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.00 at Saturday's final day of competition. Sherrard also won the A-10 gold in the 50 free on Thursday.

Sherrard's gold medal was one of three highlights on the day as sophomore Erin Sykes finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a Duquesne school record time of 17:03.03. She also set a school record with her 1,000-yard split with a time of 10:16.28.

Also setting a school record on Saturday was sophomore Kirstie Shumaker who swam a 2:04.74 in the 200 butterfly.

In all, the Dukes broke nine school records (six individual, three relay) at the four-day event and boasted two gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals.
