Duquesne Swim Team Defeats Visiting Youngstown State, 132-115

Duquesne's swimming team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 132-115 victory over visiting Youngstown State in front of 237 fans Saturday afternoon at Towers Pool. The Dukes won 13 of the 14 races and finished in first, second and third place in four of the races.

The meet opened with the 200-yard medley relay taking first place with a time of 1:48.61 and second place with a time of 1:48.94 and concluded with the Dukes setting a new Towers Pool record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.87.

The Red and Blue swept the top three spots in the 200 backstroke with Lexi Santer swimming a 2:08.68, Abigail Stauffer finishing second in 2:13.67 and Kylie Dickman placing third in 2:15.35.

Duquesne also took the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke with Laura Murphy touching first in 2:26.42, Morgan Fink taking second in 2:30.01 and Morgan Schmidt finishing third in 2:35.36.

The third DU sweep of the day came in the 100 butterfly as Samantha Ray took first in 58.33, Gabrielle Werner was second in 59.84 and Kristen McKnight was third in 1:00.22.

The final 1-2-3 finish for the Dukes was in the 200 IM with Morgan Smith in first in 2:11.78, Emily Thirion second in 2:12.71 and Kirsten Hillsley in third in 2:18.49.

 

 

Other Dukes who won races were Taylor Kane winning the 1,000 freestyle in 10:51.27, Gabrielle Sibilia in the 200 free in 1:55.28, Abby Watson in the 100 backstroke in 59.55, Murphy in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.78, Dickman in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.69, Ray in the 50 free in 24.31 and Sibilia in the 100 free in 52.87.

The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 as they face La Salle and St. Bonaventure at 9:30 am at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
