Dukes Place Second at Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Duquesne posted a second-place finish out of 15 teams at the sixth annual Magnus Cup this weekend at Busbey Natatorium. The Dukes tallied 1315 points across the three-day event hosted by Cleveland State buoyed by 11 top-three finishes. 

Akron won the event with 1809.5 points followed by Duquesne second, Xavier third (909), Cleveland State (908) and George Washington fifth (432). 

Freshman Emma Brinton (Landenburg, Pa./Avon Grove) placed second in both the 100-yard IM (58:29) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.76) to go with a third-place mark in the 200 IM (2:02.21). 

Junior Abigail Stauffer (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.67) and third in the 100-yard IM (58.64). 

Sophomore Summer Svitavsky (Willoughby, Ohio/Hawken) recorded two third-place showings in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.14) and the 1650-yard freestyle (17:03.34). 

Senior Lexi Santer (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) (400 IM - 4:24.25) and sophomore Carson Gross (York, Pa./York Suburban) (1:51.29) each contributed second-place finishes in their respective events. 



Senior Kayla Owens (Youngstown, Pa./Greater Latrobe) (50 breaststroke - 29.38) and junior Emily Thirion (Warren, Ohio/Warren) (200 breaststroke - 2:17.78) each added third-place marks for the Dukes. 

The Dukes travel to Pompano Beach, Fla. for their Florida Training trip from Dec. 28 - Jan. 5. Duquesne will compete in the Orange Bowl Classic at Jacobs Aquatic Center in Key Largo, Fla. on Jan. 3. The action gets underway at 10 a.m.
