Dukes Take 2 Of 3 In New York City Area

Duquesne University's women's swimming team won two matches and was just six points shy of sweeping the third this weekend in the New York City area. Senior Lauren Twombly, junior Liz Yager and freshmen Kyla Favret each grabbed two wins.
The Dukes defeated Saint Peter's 171-44 Friday evening at the Peacocks' Eugene and Teresa Imperatore Swimming and Diving Center and topped Rhode Island 140-64 Saturday in a three-team meet at Fordham's Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center. The host Rams just edged Duquesne, 104-98.
In Friday's match in Jersey City, N.J., the Dukes took the first two slots in the 200 yard medlay relay and took the top the top four places in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Freshman Kia Scibetta won the mixed (i.e, men & women) 1000 yard freestyle race. Also winning heats were seniors Laura Kephart (100 yd back) and Lauren Twombly (100 yd breast), junior Amy Gersbach (200 yd IM), sophomores Caitlyn Wilkins (200 yd free) and sophomore Liz Yager (100 yd butterfly) and freshmen Kyla Favret (100 yd free) and Teresa Satira (500 yd free). Twombly, Yager and Favret teamed with soph Laura Brodbeck in winning the medley relay.
In Saturday's three team match, seniors Deidre Rodeheaver and Kephart teamed with Sarah Breisinger and Jillian Rupinski to win the 400 yard medley relay by more than four seconds.
The Dukes who are now 4-6, 1-2 in A-10 competition, gets back in the water in two weeks when they travel to the three-day Akron Invitational starting on Friday, December 3, 2004.
