June 30, 2017 2017-18 Schedule
PITTSBURGH -- Duquesne swimming and diving head coach David Sheets has released the 2017-18 season schedule.
The upcoming season will mark the first year of competition for the Duquesne diving program since the 2000-01 season.
"We are looking forward to the upcoming season and have put together a schedule that will challenge the swimmers and divers each week," said Sheets. "These competitions will help us prepare throughout the season for the Atlantic 10 Championship."
The 2017 A-10 runner-up Duquesne will kick off the season at home with its annual Pentathlon/Alumni Meet on October 6.
The Dukes will open Atlantic 10 Conference competition at the Richmond Duals on October 20-21. "I am excited to start the season with the Richmond Duals," said Sheets. "We enjoy traveling to this meet and getting the opportunity to swim against two top-quality A-10 schools. This season is even more special because it will be the first meet for our diving program in 17 years."
Following the Richmond Duals, Duquesne will travel to Geneva, Ohio for the A-10 Quad Meet October 28-29, where the Dukes will compete against George Mason, La Salle, St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis.
On November 3, the diving team will head to Youngstown, Ohio while the swimming team will remain home to face YSU on November 4 at Towers Pool.
The last meet before the Dukes' annual Florida Training trip will be the Magnus Cup held in Cleveland, Ohio November 17-19. "This is always an exciting meet for the team," said Sheets. "It's an opportunity to swim in a fast pool with some great competition at Cleveland State, but it is also the start of a nice break for the team."
Duquesne will then travel to Pompano Beach, Florida to partake in its annual winter training trip from December 28-January 5.
The Dukes return to competition for the final home meet of the season when they face Ohio University and Xavier on January 13.
Duquesne will visit the defending Mid-American Conference champion Akron on January 19, and will then return home for the Western PA Invite held at Pitt January 26-27. The diving team will conclude the regular season on February 3 at the YSU Diving Invitational.
The 2018 A-10 Championship will be held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio February 14-17.
