NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Duquesne women's swimming and diving team was picked to finish second at the 2017-18 Atlantic 10 Championship, conference officials announced today.
Seven-time defending A-10 champion Richmond was selected as the favorite, followed by the Dukes second, Fordham third, Massachusetts fourth and George Washington fifth.
Duquesne is coming off a second-place showing at the 2016-17 championship meet, tallying a school-record 498.5 points. Head coach David Sheets and the Dukes have posted runner-up finishes in each of the last two seasons.
Duquesne reinstated diving for the upcoming season, marking the first year of competition since the 2000-01 season. Charlie Hauser, a former diving standout at the University of Pittsburgh and head diving coach at Chatham, was selected to lead the Dukes program.
Duquesne opens the 2017-18 campaign with their annual Pentathlon/Alumni Meet on Oct. 6 before traveling to the Richmond Duals on Oct. 20-21. The Dukes will face off with A-10 foes Davidson and Richmond at the duals.
