Swimming Inks Five in Early Signing Period

Duquesne University swimming coach David Sheets recently announced that Morgan Fink (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette), Hallie McCue (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River), Laura Murphy (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson), Lillian Nelson (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) and Molly O'Brien (Exton, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Duquesne in the fall of 2013.
"I am very excited about the five student-atheltes that have chosen to continue their academic and athletic careers at Duquesne University," said heac coach David Sheets. "Their athletic acheivements speak for themselves...combined with our upperclassmen, they will help our program get us to where we want to go. What stands out most is how they fit into the dynamic of our program and our university. When you can get fast kids that believe in the program and the university, that is a winning combination."
Fink joins the Dukes as a two-time high school team captain, WPIAL champion in the 100-yard breaststroke and school record holder in seven different events (four individual, three relay). The Almanac Premier Performer Swimming MVP in 2012 was also the WPIAL runner-up in the 200 freestyle.
McCue is a three-time All-Conference honoree and a two-time All-Ohio choice. The school record holder in the backstroke and 400 free relay, she finished sixth in the backstroke at the state championship meet as well as placing sixth at state's in the 200 and 400 free relays.
Murphy comes to DU as her school's record holder in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 IM, the 200 medley relay and the 200 and 400 free relays. A three-year state qualifier, she is a two-time All-Ohio choice, a three-time All-Conference selection and a three-time Scholar Athlete honoree.
A three-time All-League choice, Nelson is her school's record holder in the 100 breaststroke, an event where she has placed as high as fourth at sectionals. A three-time scholar-athlete, she placed among the top eight in both of her individual events all three years at the league finals.
O'Brien comes to Duquesne as a 2012 All-American and high school state record holder in the 400 free relay. A finalist at the 2012 YMCA LC Nationals in the 100 free, she has been a state finalist in the 50 and 100 free events. She is also a team captain and First Team Main Line Media News and Daily Local News.
