HARMAR, Pa. - The Duquesne women's tennis team evened its 2013 record at 2-2 after a pair of wins over Bucknell and Niagara this weekend. The scores of both matches were 6-1.
The Dukes began the weekend against the Bison, which started off with a dominating double performance. Judy Li and Alexa Miller were 8-2 winners over Lydia Colvin and Jen Bush at the #2 spot. Daniela Osio and Chandler Consonery defeated Stephanie Pino and Christie Schneider 8-3 at #3. Megan O'Sullivan and Sarah Shashura were leading Maria Cioffi and Elena Vidrascu 7-4 when the Dukes clinched the point.
Li, O'Sullivan, Miller, Consonery and Laurence Lambert were all winners in singles. The only point the Bison won was at #3 singles, which was a hard-fought battle between Shashura and Colvin. After splitting the first two sets, Colvin won a super-breaker 10-7.
The following day against Niagara started out in similar fashion with an excellent doubles performance by the teams of Shashura and O'Sullivan at #1, Li and Miller at #2 and Consonery and Osio at #3.
The Dukes took 5-of-6 singles matches against the Purple Eagles, dropping only three sets.
"I was very impressed with the doubles this weekend," said head coach Joe Camillo. "We made a few changes to the lineup to find good chemistry. Our captains (Li and O'Sullivan) played especially great matches both days."
"We look forward to building on these win heading into this weekend's matches conference against Saint Joseph's and George Washington."
The Dukes host the Hawks beginning Friday at 5:00 p.m. and the Colonials on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. Both matches are at Alpha Fitness and Tennis.
