Winter Park, Florida - Duquesne University's women's tennis team was defeated by UNC-Wilmington, 5-2, Thursday morning at the Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex on the campus of Rollins College. Freshman Jackie Hughes (McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport) gained a straight set win at #2 over Sallie Kiser, 6-2, 6-1. Junior Sarah Shanahan (Columbus, OH / Bishop Watterson) held on for a three-set win at #5, 7-6, 4-6, 12-10, against Kacie Smith.

Shanahan and senior Alina Klinova (Moscow, Russia / W1278) teamed up for the lone doubles win for the Dukes, 8-6 over the Seahawks' Lauren Filliettaz and Cary Wyeth.

The Dukes next face Division II Nova Southeastern University Thursday, Mar. 11 at 12 noon.
