PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA - Duquesne's women's tennis team was topped by Bucknell, 4-3, on the Dukes' home courts on Sunday.
The Dukes and Bison split the six singles matches while the Patriot League squad won the doubles competition, 2-1. Duquesne is now 4-6 this season while Bucknell raised their record to 8-1.
Junior Katie Riedinger defeated Jill Wurzburg, 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-4, in number 3 singles. Sophomore Sarah Shanahan defeated Tanya Sichko, 6-1, 6-0, in number 4 singles while senior Leia Zingone, this week's Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, defeated Samantha Berthod, 6-3, 6-3, in number 6 singles. Both freshman Diana Stein and senior Marina Zelenovic lost matches as they were forced to retire.
Shanahan teamed up with fellow sophomore Julie Wagner to top Rheanna Gaskin and Tanya Sichko, 8-2, for DU's lone doubles victory.
Zingone, who missed a majority of the fall season due to a broken leg, is 3-0 in singles matches this spring. Shanahan won both of her singles matches this weekend and, along with Wagner, took both doubles sets against Toledo and Bucknell.
The women next host Atlantic 10 foe George Washington (3-4) Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Colonials have been idle since a March 9 win over Mount St. Mary's.
